Many view Adventure Based Learning in a variety of ways. Whether it’s a lack of understanding or a misrepresentation of the opportunity... it’s not uncommon to feel as though my ‘work’ is misunderstood.
I love what I do not just for the opportunity of the adventure, but also for the work that goes into making it all happen and then transitioning once it’s concluded - it’s demanding, but purposeful.
Adventure based learning is a personal experience that moves people out of their comfort zone, through the fear zone and into their learning and growth zones.
It provides learners with the chance to learn by doing. Immersing themselves in the world around them, gaining knowledge through hands-on experiences and exploring their curiosity in new environments.
Building, instilling and assuring each learners mental, physical, social and emotional capabilities. Connecting their strengths, passions and skills to real world opportunities.
Sharing in community, embracing relational structures and connecting with others in personal way. Enjoying the chance to connect and/or conquer through adventure.
Living in the authenticity of being with others over an extended period of time. Becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable. Celebrating that we’re all raw, imperfect and real.
